Why should I upgrade my earphones from a generic tip to a custom fit tip?

Did you know – it is possible to recognise someone from even a fuzzy picture of their ear with 99.6% accuracy in just 0.02 milliseconds1

Not only are your ears unique to look at from the outside, the size and shape of the ear canal varies between individuals too. This means that the small, medium & large generic earbuds are not going to provide the perfect fit. For a number of people, this is not a problem. They find a ‘standard’ fit works and are happy. However, for many the earphone does not securely stay in the ear, which can prove expensive when the earphone falls out and onto the train track or the dog snuffles it up (which has happened!).

If you use your earphones regularly, and for prolonged periods of time, comfort is very important. If the earphone does not fit correctly, it will be uncomfortable.

As Snugs are ‘made to measure’, they offer superiority in comfort over a generic tip. If it wasn’t for the music playing, you can sometimes forget you are wearing your earphones they’re so comfortable.

Available for most earphones – skyringe are custom fit to both the ear and the earphone driver. We have the template designs and can make skyringe for most popular running earphones including the Jabra Elite Active 75t, Bose Sport Earbuds & Apple AirPods Pro

There are two methods available to complete your custom fitting, and your choice will depend on whether your preference is for more ambient noise, or maximum noise isolation.

Noise is measured in decibels (dB), and exposing your ears to high levels puts them at risk of being damaged. The UK’s “action level” for hearing protection is at 85db, although some sources recommend taking action at just 70dB. It is worth bearing in mind that the dB scale is logarithmic, which means that the noise energy doubles every 3dB. Read on to find out why this is important

and the full range of frequencies. This ensures that bass notes, low frequency sound range, are full and not leaked away. You can turn down the volume and actually really hear the audio channel at it’s mid-range best as opposed to turning it up to drown out the wind noise and road roar.
